I designed The Dream is Dead’s “Hail the New Pawn” CD and LP packaging for Escape Artist Records back in 2005. It’s one of my favorite pieces because the band and label (thanks Adam and Conrad) were friends and a super supportive label and let me go crazy with the design and use a spot gloss to deliver a very important part of the theme I wanted portray. The graphics, at least in my mind, perfectly match the gritty political and musical intensity of the band and delve into the idea that politicians are just pawns (the album title, duh) and the spot gloss shows puppeteer strings and hands holding up the main politician and demonic masks on many of the cronies along side him. Big brother is always watching and turning the gears.
